Your Therapy

We will work together to find the most effective treatment, using techniques in Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioural therapy (CBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) , NLP and Hypnotherapy. These techniques will help you to explore …….

What is Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)?

CBT is a form of talking therapy that combines cognitive therapy and behaviour therapy. It focuses on how you think about the things going on in your life – your thoughts, images, beliefs and attitudes (your cognitive processes) – and how this impacts on the way you behave and deal with emotional problems. It then looks at how you can change any negative patterns of thinking or behaviour that may be causing you difficulties. In turn, this can change the way you feel.

CBT may focus on what is going on in the present rather than the past. However, the therapy may also look at your past and how your past experiences impact on how you interpret the world now.

CBT and negative thoughts

CBT theory suggests that it isn't events themselves that upset you, but the meanings you give to them. Your thoughts can block you seeing things that don't fit in with what you believe to be true. You may continue to hold on to these thoughts and not learn anything new.

What type of problems can CBT help with?

CBT can be an effective therapy for a number of problems:

  • anger management
  • anxiety and panic attacks
  • chronic fatigue syndrome
  • chronic pain
  • depression
  • eating problems
  • general health problems
  • mood swings
  • phobias
  • sleep problems.

Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)

Compassion can be thought of as a skill  that one can train in, with increasing evidence that focusing on and practising compassion can influence our health and wellbeing

Compassion Focused Therapy, also known as Compassionate Mind Training (CMT) has been developed to help individuals who experience high levels of shame and self-criticism; these can be common characteristics of clients who come to therapy experiencing many emotional difficulties, including low mood and/or high levels of anxiety.

CFT increases awareness and understanding of the automatic reactions we all experience that have evolved in humans over millions of years, and which the individual has also learned from early childhood.

The key principles of CFT are to help you care for their own wellbeing and to become sensitive to your own needs and distress, and to extend warmth and understanding towards yourself.

The healing properties of compassion have been written about for centuries. The Dalai Lama often stresses that if you want others to be happy – focus

on compassion; if you want to be happy yourself – focus on compassion (Dalai Lama 1995, 2001).

Hypnosis

This is an entirely natural state which we enter regularly and effortlessly. It is rather like daydreaming and it is a form of deep relaxation. Whilst in a light hypnotic trance you learn to explore you unconscious thoughts and allow them to find solutions to your difficulties. Hypnotherapy or therapeutic hypnosis, used with Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), can help you understand how you make sense of the world and those around you and help you reconsider the way you think and do things. There are 2 lives for all of us … the life we live and the “unlived” life within us.

Hypnotherapy can generally help with any problem where you can't help yourself doing or thinking something that you don't want, or not being able to do something that you want to do. There is nothing mysterious or mystifying about hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapists differ from hypnotists: performers who use hypnosis for entertainment, often without much consideration of the person being hypnotised Hypnotherapy using hypnosis is a widely accepted method, for helping people make changes in their lives. Clinical Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic process designed to create an altered state of consciousness which stimulates the relaxation response and enables the mind to become receptive to suggestion

How does it work?

It's always good to understand for yourself how and why hypnosis works. The mind is made up of two parts known as the conscious and the sub-conscious. The conscious mind responds by taking control of everyday decision making whereas the sub-conscious only responds to the way it has been previously programmed.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)

This is an increasingly popular approach used to help you change unwanted habits and behaviour. it uses models of good communication and it is also called the study of excellence. Techniques used include anchoring positive feelings for you to return to, at will, at any time.
